One of the biggest factors that drive people to the Beehive State is the mountains and all the outdoor activities we have to offer. There are so many great hiking and biking trails accessible from the city. This list is just a small collection of the hundreds of hikes and trails accessible within a short distance of Orem, UT that show off the beauty that our great state has to offer!
- Murdock Canal Trail
A moderately trafficked point-to-point trail offering scenic views and good for all skill levels. The trail is accessible year-round and allows leashed dogs. There are numerous trail heads, including the starting/stopping trailhead in Orem. There is no parking at the trailhead at 1100 E. 800 N., but just a few blocks east is the parking lot for the Provo River Parkway trailhead that can be used for the Murdock Canal Trail as well.
- Canyon View Park Provo River Loop
Good for all skill levels, the Canyon View Park Provo River Loop is a moderately trafficked loop trail primarily used for walking, nature trips, and mountain biking and best accessed from May until October.
- Carterville Trail
Primarily used for walking, running, nature trips, and road biking, the lightly trafficked Carterville Trail is a 1.2 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail, accessible year round. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a leash.
- Bonneville Shoreline Trail
Spanning from Ogden all the way down to Payson, the Bonneville Shoreline Trail is one of the most well-known trails in the area. With over 100 miles of trail, the out and back trail offers a moderate hike with various trailhead locations, including a couple in Orem. Most people do not follow the entire length of the trail but it is heavily used by locals and is a nice area to go running or walking and to enjoy views of surrounding cities. You can connect to numerous other trails throughout the valley from the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.
- Squaw Peak Trail
Heavily trafficked 7.3 mile out and back trail best accessed from March until October. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leash. The trail features a river and is rated as a difficult trail. The Squaw Peak Trail trailhead is located between Orem & Provo.
